Canada Day Fireworks in West St. Paul
West St. Paul will be recognizing Canada’s birthday July 1st with a fireworks show from the Sunova Centre. The event will comply with public health orders and no access to the Sunova grounds will be permitted.
People are encouraged to park their cars on a nearby roadway in a safe manner and enjoy the show with your family.
The Manitoba Metis Federation is co-sponsoring the event.
Mayor Cheryl Christian thanked the MMF for its continued partnership with West St. Paul.
"The MMF and the RM have had a great relationship in recent years and I thank them for their support,” Christian said.
Andrew Carrier, Vice President of the Winnipeg Metis Association, met with the Mayor and CAO Brent Olynyk to deliver a cheque to support the event. Carrier said this year’s Canada Day will be one for reflection in light of the recent discoveries of unmarked graves at former residential schools in B.C. and Saskatchewan.
"I had a conversation with Andrew and I agree with his sentiments that July 1 will be a day for all Canadians to unite and reflect. It’s important that we do that.”
The fireworks start at approximately 10:30 pm on July 1st with an orange tribute followed by a moment of silence to recognize the undue hardships and sacrifices endured by our Indigenous communities across this country.
