Initiative - Phase 1 Main Street construction begins next
week
Manitoba Infrastructure will begin Phase 1 of Hwy. 9 (Main Street) reconstruction, from the Perimeter Highway to Balderstone Road on August 3.
Phase 1 will involve work on the northbound lanes and will be complete by October of this year.
During Phase 1 southbound shoulders will be temporarily paved; Kapelus Drive will be relocated to align with River Trail Drive; temporary and permanent traffic signals will be installed at River Trail and Kapelus Drives and Grassmere Road and Evelyn Avenue (permanent) and Nye Avenue and Balderstone Road (both temporary).
There will be minimal traffic disturbance during this work.
Stage 1 northbound construction will begin September 6 and traffic will be switched over to the southbound lanes with one lane in each direction. The northbound lanes will be closed for construction.
All driveways and accesses will remain open during construction and approximately 40 metres of the existing River Trail Drive will be reconstructed. Traffic will be able to flow in and out of River Trail Drive.
Stage 2 will begin in May 2022 and will concentrate on southbound lanes.
The northbound lanes trails will not be available during Stage 1 construction this year and southbound lanes trails will not be available during Stage 2 construction next year.
