Protect your home this spring
As increased precipitation is anticipated this week, residents are reminded to ensure their sump pump systems are operating properly and that water is being directed safely away from home foundations.
Please take some time to ensure:
- Your sump pump has been recently tested and is functioning as intended
- The discharge hose is securely connected and extended to direct water away from your foundation
- Downspouts are extended and effectively carrying water away from the building
- Discharge areas are monitored to prevent pooling or ice buildup, particularly during cooler temperatures
Water must not be discharged onto neighbouring properties, sidewalks, or roadways, as this can create drainage concerns and safety hazards. Residents are also encouraged to ensure grading around their home slopes away from the foundation to support proper drainage.
Taking these preventative steps helps reduce risk to individual properties and supports effective drainage throughout the community.
