Statistics Canada - 2026 Census
The 2026 Census begins May 4, and every person counted in the census has a direct impact.
The information collected by Statistics Canada is used to determine how funding is distributed to communities across Canada.
That funding supports the things residents rely on every day, including roads, water and wastewater infrastructure, emergency services, and recreation facilities.
Population counts also directly affect per capita funding. This means that every person counted helps bring more support into the community, while missing responses can result in fewer resources for those same services.
In Canada, participation in the census is required under the Statistics Act, so when you receive your invitation in the mail, please take a few minutes to complete it. Completing the online questionnaire is secure and confidential.
