Costco Breaks Ground in West St. Paul

A major milestone in West St. Paul's continued growth was celebrated on August 14 with the official groundbreaking for the new Costco Wholesale in the Meadowlands development.

Located on Meadowland Drive, the new Costco will feature an approximately 161,992-square-foot warehouse on a 20.94-acre site. Plans include an eight-lane gas bar, tire centre, eating and drinking establishment within the warehouse, and seasonal outdoor garden centre. The site will also include 1,038 parking stalls, with access from Meadowland Drive and Whitehaven Drive.

Mayor Peter Truijen and members of Council joined representatives from Costco and other guests for the groundbreaking ceremony, marking the official start of construction on the highly anticipated development.

“Costco could have chosen to build elsewhere, but they chose West St. Paul, and I think that speaks very well of where our community is going,” said Mayor Peter Truijen. “This is a great anchor for our community, and I think it will encourage other developers and businesses to come here and take a look at what West St. Paul has to offer.”

The development will bring new employment opportunities, strengthen the Municipality's commercial tax base, and provide residents with greater access to shopping and services within the municipality.

“As West St. Paul continues to grow, it’s important that our commercial development grows alongside our residential development,” said CAO Jeff Simpson. “Costco is a significant addition to our community and an important step toward creating a more complete municipality with more opportunities for residents to live, work and shop close to home."

The new West St. Paul Costco is expected to open in August 2027.
