Halloween Safety Tips
With Halloween just around the corner, we’re encouraging you to take a few simple precautions to help keep trick-or-treaters and our community safe.
For trick-or-treaters and families:
• Choose bright costumes or add reflective materials to improve visibility.
• Walk in groups and always face oncoming traffic.
• Carry a flashlight and use sidewalks wherever possible.
• Cross at intersections and look both ways before crossing the road.
• Ensure children are accompanied by a responsible adult, where appropriate.
• Check all treats before eating them.
For residents welcoming trick-or-treaters:
• Keep walkways and entrances clear of obstacles.
• Ensure outdoor lights are on so visitors can see where they are going.
• Keep pets secured and away from the front door if needed.
For drivers:
• Reduce your speed and watch for children near roads, intersections and driveways.
• Stay alert, particularly during the evening when visibility is reduced.
• Avoid distractions and give pedestrians extra space.
The West St. Paul COPP volunteer group will be out once again doing their annual Citizens on Patrol Halloween Blitz. Volunteers will be looking for those Trick-or-Treaters that aren’t wearing any reflective apparel. They will be given a reflective wristband and remind for their own safety to wear a reflective clothing while walking at night.
Thank you for helping make Halloween a safe and enjoyable evening for everyone in West St. Paul.
