Protect Your Household: Test Your Well Water This Spring
Spring is an ideal time for homeowners to test their well water.
As snow melts and ground conditions change, surface water can carry bacteria into water sources, especially in rural areas or properties with shallow wells. Because of this increased risk, the Government of Manitoba recommends testing for bacteriological contaminants at least once a year.
Testing in the spring helps ensure your water is safe after the winter thaw and gives you peace of mind heading into the warmer months. You should also consider testing more frequently if you notice changes in taste, smell, or colour, or after heavy rainfall or flooding.
Regular testing is a simple step that helps protect your household’s health and ensures your water remains safe to use.
Residents can pick up a well water testing kit from the Municipal Office at 3550 Main Street during office hours, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Subsidized testing is available at Duracan Ltd, located at 862 Dufferin Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at a cost of $17.67 including tax. For more information about the private well testing subsidy program, please contact Duracan Laboratory at 204-960-9995 or https://www.duracan.ca/contact.
