Summer Dynamic First Aid Courses
STAY SAFE Course - Ages 9-12yrs
Wednesday July 3rd - 10am start (Duration: approx. 4hrs)
Prerequisite: 9-12yrs (or comp. of Gr. 3)
Real-world scenarios often call on children to respond to challenges. The Canadian Red Cross Stay Safe course teaches applicable and age-appropriate skills, while increasing and reinforcing a youth’s capacity to improve his or her own safety. Whether in their community or on their own, this group will be given better tools to Stay Safe! in a variety of different situations. Course Content: The importance of responsibility and respect while being accountable for yourself; The importance of setting and following safety rules when on your own; How to stay safe at home and within the community; How to prepare for, recognize and respond to unexpected situations; Basic first aid skills
Babysitters Course - Ages 11-15yrs
Wednesday July 10th - 10am start (Duration: approx. 6hrs)
Prerequisite: Min. of 11yrs of age (or completion of Gr. 5)
The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course offers basic first aid and caregiving skills for youth ages 11-15yrs old. Participants learn how to provide care to children in a variety of age groups and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. The course also offers youth the skills to promote themselves as babysitters to prospective families. Course Content: How to be responsible and demonstrate leadership; How to make good decisions & manage difficult behaviours; Info on children’s development & specific strategies for each stage; How to feed, diaper, dress and play with children & babies; How to recognize and prevent unsafe situations, make safe choices and promote safe behaviours; First aid skills; The business of babysitting.
