West St. Paul Mayor
Elected as Mayor in 2018, Cheryl is committed to working productively and respectfully with the new Council, staff and partners to establish a fair and open decision making process in West St. Paul. In the upcoming term, Cheryl will work with residents, developers and businesses to ensure well-planned and well managed growth in our community. Recognizing the importance of honest and frequent communication, Cheryl will collaborate with residents, Council and staff to create a shared vision for the future of West St. Paul.
Elected as a Councillor in 2014 for Ward 1, Cheryl worked to ensure open communication with residents by hosting monthly coffee times and an open house for residents to select their own play structure equipment for their neighbourhood park.
Beyond the boundaries of her ward, Cheryl publicly challenged the harassment and bullying of elected officials and municipal staff and put forward a resolution that was supported by over 90% of all Mayors, Reeves, Councillors and CAO’s in Manitoba. She also wrote a resolution to resume dredging on the Red River that would increase recreational opportunities, restore habitat in the marsh and protect Lake Winnipeg. The resolution was supported by many neigbouring municipalities and a pilot dredging project is currently being considered for funding by the Federal Government.
As a member of Council, Cheryl strongly advocated for a more open and transparent development agreement process that resulted in changes to the approval process in West St. Paul.
Cheryl is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba, with a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts and has completed her course work towards a Doctor of Philosophy. Cheryl has worked as a Research Associate, Project Coordinator and Instructor at the University of Manitoba.
