Cheryl Christian elected Mayor of West St. Paul

Cheryl Christian is the new Mayor of West St. Paul after capturing 1,528 votes in the Oct. 24 Municipal Election. Incumbent mayor Bruce Henley received 1,121 votes.

Christian was a first-term councillor who decided to run for mayor in this year’s election. She said she’s thrilled with the support she has received from residents throughout West St. Paul.

"I’d like to thank everyone who voted, and not just for me, but everyone who came out and voted and took part in the electoral process. We’re fortunate to live in a great democratic country and exercising your right to vote is so important,” Christian said.

"I’m thankful for all the support I’ve received from residents. I’ve spent a lot of time on people’s doorsteps, and I thank everyone for sharing their ideas and concerns. Council and staff will be working to ensure an open and inclusive local government.”

Christian congratulated the other 11 people who let their name stand for either mayor or council.

"Representing your community on council is a big responsibility and I applaud everyone who entered into this race and regardless of the outcome, they should be commended,” she said.

"And to my fellow councillors who were elected, I congratulate them, and look forward to working with our new council and staff for the betterment of West St. Paul over the next four years.”

Along with Mayor Christian, West St. Paul residents will be represented by Eleanor Link in Ward 1, Giorgio Busceti in Ward 2, Dorothy Kleiber in Ward 3 and Stan Parag in Ward 4.
