Planning District Asks How to Help with your How-tos

DIY Building Season Brings Questions – Let’s Start with ‘How Can We Help You?’

Planning a building project can be tough when you don’t know where to start. As a new season for building begins, the Red River Planning District (RRPD) is starting by asking how we can help you?

A short online survey has been launched, inviting homeowners within the municipalities of St. Andrews, St. Clements, East St. Paul, West St. Paul, the City of Selkirk and the Village of Dunnottar to answer questions about projects they may be considering around the home and how to best provide residents with the information they need. The survey is available on the RRPD’s website at www.redriverplanning.com, at the RRPD office, and as part of Home Hardware’s event, May 7th from 11am to 3pm.

The results of the survey will help the RRPD improve customer service ahead of the upcoming construction season.

"We all understand time is short, especially considering this years’ late arrival of spring weather. We’re here as a support for residents. We don’t want anyone’s project to be delayed – or worse, have to be rebuilt – because our communities’ guidelines were misunderstood,” said Jennifer Ferguson, RRPD’s Executive Director.

"Residential building permits aren’t just red tape,” said Ferguson. "The permit approval and inspection process is to ensure that your project meets all necessary codes and regulations for both the current and future owners’ health and well-being.”

By listening to what residents have to say about the types of improvements they have planned, the questions they have and where they go for information, the RRPD will be able to tailor the resources and supports available for homeowners.
