Motorists reminded to slow down in school zones starting tomorrow

Students will be returning to school across the province next week and motorists travelling Hwy. 9 in front of West St. Paul School are reminded that tomorrow, Sept. 1, the speed limit in front of the school drops from 70 kph to 50 kph.  Reduced speed limits within Winnipeg and other municipalities also take effect Sept 1st.

"The kids will be heading back next week, and we wish them all a good school year and we just want to remind motorists to slow down by the school. It’s better for the students, and we don’t want people getting tickets, so that’s why we’re remind everyone that the bylaw is in effect again,” Mayor Bruce Henley said.

Changes to the Highway Traffic Act allowed for local governments to reduce speed limits in school zones. The speed limit on Hwy. 9 will be 50 kph from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
