Summer Student Positions

The Rural Municipality of West St Paul is recruiting Summer Student positions to work in various capacities from June through August.

Summer Maintenance Positions

Job Type: Temporary Full Time
Duration:  June 24, 2019-August 30, 2019 (11 week duration)
Salary: $14.73
Closing Date:  March 22, 2019 

Duties:

  • Assist in the summer weed / roadside mowing maintenance program
  • Assist in the parks and recreation maintenance programs
  • Maintain mobile and stationary equipment 

Qualifications:

  • Students or unemployed youth aged 15 to 29
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Finished their studies for the year (if in high school)
  • Valid Manitoba Drivers License
  • Be able to relate with the general public and other employees
  • Must be physically fit to complete ongoing manual labour duties
  • Working in the presence of pollen and dust
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision

Summer Camp Counsellors

Job Type: Temporary Full Time
Duration:  June 10, 2019-August 30, 2019 (13 week duration) and June 24, 2019-August 30, 2019 (11 week duration)
Salary: $11.35 to $13.26
Closing Date:  March 22, 2019  

Duties:

The Summer Camp Counsellor - working under the supervision and direction of the Recreation Director - will provide assistance regarding the planning, organizing, implementation and supervision of all aspects of the Sunova Summer Camp Program.   

The successful applicant will perform the following duties:

  • Caring for, supervising and engaging children enrolled in the program
  • Assisting with program registration, marketing, record keeping and reporting before and during the program
  • Assisting with the creation, planning, organization and implementation of the day-to-day outline for the program
  • Assisting in program evaluation and creating a supply inventory at the end of the program
  • Enforcing the rules and providing the appropriate kind and amount of discipline to the children enrolled in the program
  • Assisting with the supervision of special events outside of regular activities, as assigned
  • To maintain a safe, clean environment for the children enrolled in the program
  • To know, observe, implement and respect all camp policies
  • To respects the rights of confidentiality and privacy in all matters affecting or involving the program and/or service
  • To perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the job description 

Qualifications:

  • Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Finished their studies for the year (if in high school)
  • Possess experience/skills specific to Children’s Recreation (i.e. experience with arts/crafts, sports/games, group recreation, special activities, etc.)
  • Have experience working with and dealing with children of all ages
  • Be flexible in terms of the hours available to cover required shifts
  • Hold current Emergency First Aid and CPR Certifications (or willing to obtain)
  • Hold a clear Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check

Summer Administration Clerk

Job Type:  Temporary with Variable Hours
Duration:  June 24, 2019-August 30, 2019 (11 week duration)
Salary: $11.35
Closing Date:   March 22, 2019

Duties:

  • Responds to general inquiries and requests for information, on the telephone or in person
  • Performs various administrative support duties including word processing, filing, receiving and distributing information, data entry and processing incoming and outgoing mail
  • Provides service to the public by accepting payment of accounts, issuing receipts, issuing lottery licences, dog licences, or other applications as required 

Qualifications:

  • Students or unemployed youth aged 16 to 29
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Finished their studies for the year (if in high school)
  • Ability to type 30 words per minute
  • Demonstrated competence in computer word processing and spreadsheet programs
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing letters and reports
  • Physically fit and mentally able to perform required tasks
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
