Councillor Ward 3
Detlef and his wife Sherrill, along with their sons Ryan and Justin, have proudly called West St. Paul their home for over 17 years. During this time, Detlef and his family have established many wonderful, lasting friendships with members of our community. In addition to Detlef’s love of teaching music, he has volunteered his trumpeting skills for the annual Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign. He currently works with law enforcement agencies specializing in emergency vehicle lighting and communications installation.
As an advocate for safer communities, Detlef has established an excellent working relationship with the RCMP. Detlef took up the initiate to re-activate the Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP) in West St. Paul. He has been very active in the community as the group coordinator and was instrumental in organizing the first "West St. Paul – COPP Safety Expo & Forum”.
Detlef is an active member of the City of Winnipeg’s Communications System Branch Workplace Health and Safety Committee. He was the chairperson for the West Kildonan Collegiate Parent Advisory Council, and an active participant with the West St. Paul Ad-Hoc Surface Water Management Committee. He has also spent much time acting as liaison to residents who have voiced their concerns, thereby improving the community. Detlef has successfully lobbied the Manitoba Highway Traffic Board for a speed-limit reduction in order to improve safety.
Detlef’s abilities gained by working cooperatively and effectively with others, while considering and respecting opposing views, have served him well. He has learned to appreciate the virtue of patience.
Detlef is committed to keeping West St. Paul a unique and dynamic community; a place we are each proud to call home.
